Kawah Putih terbentuk dari aktifitas letusan gunung Patuha yang terjadi pada abad XII, nama lain dari gunung patuha menurut orang tua dahulu adalah gunung sepuh. Daya tarik yang dimiliki Danau kawah Putih ini adalah warna air yang berada di danau kawah yang selalu berubah bila terkena sinar matahari serta permukaan kawah, pasir dan bebatuan yang didominasi oleh warna putih.

Kawah Putih is formed from the activity of the eruption of the Patuha Mountain that happens in the XII Century, the other name from the mountain patuha according to parents beforehand is Gunung Sepuh. The attraction that is owned this Danau Kawah Putih is the colour of water that is in the crater lake that always changes when being affected by the sun rays as well as the surface of the crater, sand and the stone that are dominated by the white colour.

Keindahan Kawah Putih yang mulai terungkap pada tahun 1837 oleh seorang ilmuwan asal Belanda yang bernama Dr. Franz Wilhelm Junghun. Bau belerang menjadi sajian yang tidak terpisahan ketika berdiri mengagumi kawah hijau muda yang dikelilingi oleh pasir putih serta riak air dalam kawah yang diikuti oleh asap tipis serta sesekali letupan lumpur hidup menjadikannya sebuah atraksi alam yang sungguh mempesona.

Kawah Putih ini terletak pada ketinggian 2434 m dpl, konfigurasi lapangan umumnya landai sampai berbukit. Suhu udara sekitar 8 – 22 0 C. sumber air yang ada tergantung musim hujan. Kelembaban 90%, sedangkan curah hujan tahunan tercatat antara 3743 – 4043 mm/tahun.
